Today's trolley watch figure from the INMO showed 26 people waiting for beds in Sligo Hospital.

Action needs to be taken immediately to address overcrowding at Sligo General hospital if the crisis isn't to deepen further.

That's according to the INMO Industrial Relations Officer for the North West, Neal Donohue.

Sligo hospital is one of the worst affected when it comes to recent surges of people presenting to the Emergency Department, and the INMO representative says it's leading to a very unsafe situation.

Neal Donohue says staff and patients aren't able to practice proper social distancing which is even more vital than ever due to the increase in Covid cases.

He says this wouldn't be tolerated in any other public sector, and plans have to be made now to handle this situation before things get even worse.
