The Roscommon side of the River Shannon is seeing a large number of cases

The Roscommon electoral areas of Boyle and Athlone have recorded the highest number of Covid cases in the last two weeks in the Shannonside region.

87 cases have been recorded in south Roscommon - with 44 in the Boyle M.D and 38 in the Roscommon town M.D.

The south Roscommon M.D has an incidence rate of 435.5 - well above the average of 245.

The Athlone Moate M.D in Westmeath recorded 43 cases in the same period.

In Longford, Ballymahon's LEA had the highest Covid rate in the county with 20 cases.

14 cases were recorded in Longford town's M.D and 11 cases in Granard's local electoral area.

In Leitrim, 13 cases were confirmed in Ballinamore's M.D and 35 in the wider Carrick-on-Shannon area in the last fortnight.

Carrick's Covid rate is just over 300 per 100,000 people.

One area of Donegal has a rate of Covid-19 that's over eight times the national average.

Nearly one in every 50 people in Carndonagh local electoral area tested positive in the space of two weeks.

On Monday, the country's 14-day incidence rate was nearly 246 per 100,000 people.

But several local electoral areas are far worse than that.

Carndonagh's was 1,975 - by far the highest in the country.

Another Donegal area, Buncrana, is the second worst - with a rate of 1,238.

Ardee in Co Louth has the third highest rate, at 774.

That's followed by Galway City Central, with 637, and Donegal Town LEA, with 608.

Internationally, Ireland has the eighth highest 14-day incidence rate in the EU, according to new data from the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control.
