South Roscommon flood pumps turned off
The flooding at Lough Funshinagh in south Roscommon in the past

Temporary pumps have been shut off at Lough Funshinagh because water there has reached an agreed level. It was confirmed at a meeting of Roscommon County Council yesterday that the pumps have been switched off for now. Director of Services Mark Keaveney told members the turlough had now reached the height set out in planning regulations.

The pumps and associated pipework were installed in March. Work on a permanent overflow pipe area is expected to go to planning later this year. Local councillor Laurence Fallon says some residents have been left frustrated:

Farmers living and working near the former turlough are still being impacted by current water levels. Cllr Tony Ward says they're losing out on income each week the water remains on their land:
