Sligo IT to become part of new Atlantic Technological University

It will cover a total of 8 different campuses including Castlebar, Galway city, Killybegs, Mountbellew and Sligo.

The name of the new educational entity involving Sligo IT has been announced as the Atlantic Technological University of the West and North West.

The new university takes in GMIT, IT Sligo, Letterkenny IT and it will be the fourth technological university nationally.

It will cover a total of 8 different campuses including Castlebar, Galway city, Killybegs, Mountbellew and Sligo.

Minister Frank Feighan says he's delighted St Angela's college in Sligo has also been approved for inclusion in the new education grouping.

He says the college has produced many teachers in the north west for several decades, and is more than worthy of joining the new university.
