Skatepark for Longford to be priority of newly elected county Cathoirleach

There have been calls for the construction of a skate park in the county for the last number of years.

The newly elected chair of Longford County Council has vowed to work on the provision of a skate park for the town.

Councillor Peggy Nolan, who was selected as county Cathaoirleach yesterday, has called for a major investment in Longford infrastructure.

Speaking after her election, Councillor Nolan spoke of how the construction of a Skate Park is one of her main priorities for her upcoming year in the position.

The development of skateboarding and rollerblading infrastructure has been the source of a large community campaign over the last number of years with well known Longford landmarks such as the Army barracks and the Greyhound track suggested as possible future sites.

According to the newly elected chair, proper sporting infrastructure is needed in the county to encourage children to develop their skills:
