Tourism providers in the Shannonside region say the lack of overseas visitors will have a huge impact on their operations this year.

There’s been controversy over people travelling from countries such as America to Ireland, without restricting their movements for two weeks.

The National Famine Museum at Strokestown, which is now open, sees thousands of visitors from the US each year, returning to trace their roots.

Manager John O' Driscoll says while there are visitors stopping by on their way to a staycation in the West, they are missing the overseas market.
