Shannonside region sees consistent drop in unemployment levels

With the country emerging from lockdown, unemployment levels are beginning to drop as people head back to work.

County Roscommon recorded the biggest regional drop in the number of people unemployed last month.

New CSO figures show a total of just over 1800(1816) people unemployed in the county last month - compared to 1884 in March - a reduction of 68 people

The number of people unemployed in Longford dropped by 59 last month - reducing from 2271 in March to 2212 in April.

Year on year, 324 fewer people were claiming assistance from the Department of Social Protection in Longford this April compared to 2020 figures and 29 fewer people were on the live register in County Leitrim in April compared to March.

Overall, the total number of people on the live register in Leitrim last month was 1,587 - and year on year the number of people unemployed in April of this year compared to twelve months ago is down 155.

Athlone's live register recorded a drop of 34 people in its total number unemployed while the figure for Mullingar also dropped by 154 between March and April of this year.
