Shannonside Minister claims N4 upgrades will not be down the list

Both the N4 Dromod to Carrick on Shannon and Mullingar to Longford routes are also among the local roads projects included

The Public Expenditure Minister has insisted safeguards are in place to ensure value for money on the new National Development Plan.

Michael McGrath says external experts will be brought in at tender stage in a bid to avoid a repeat of the National Children's Hospital overruns.

All the road projects from the previous NDP have made it into this plan.

Along with big public transport moves like BusConnects in all five cities, Dart+, and Metrolink.

The Taoiseach told journalists this wasn't a wishlist, but a solid plan for how the country addresses issues around climate, housing, health and infrastructure over the next decade.

Among the projects that that serve the Shannonside region included in the plan are the regeneration of Sligo University Hospital and the provision of a new Emergency Department and ward block at University Hospital Galway.

Both the N4 Dromod to Carrick on Shannon and Mullingar to Longford routes are also among the local roads infrastructure projects still on the government agenda.

Longford Westmeath TD and Minister of State Peter Burke says while the projects may hit stumbling blocks along the way, he's hopeful they can be delivered in the next decade.
