Several local charities benefit from Toy Show Appeal

The money is coming from viewers who donated millions last year to the popular TV show.

Over 120,000 euro has been allocated to charities across the Shannonside region as part of the RTÉ Toy Show Appeal fund.

Mohill Family support centre received the highest grant locally at 30,000 euro while both Athlone and and Castlerea resource centres were allocated 20,000 each.

Longford's Cian's Kennels received 20,000 euro to extend its services at Crumlin Children's Hospital a further 10,000 euro was granted to Airc Midlands.

Everyday Science received an allocation of 16,500 to provide young people with the tools to engage in science while Longford learning support were awarded 5,000 euro.

Nationally, over 1.1 million children and their families will benefit from donations raised during the 2021 Late Late Toy Show Appeal.

Majella McGovern from the Mohill Family Support centre told the Joe Finnegan Show it's a huge boost for their activities:

"We would offer therapeutic support to adults but also children aged four to eighteen. When we got the news that we got his funding from the Toy Show Appeal, we were just over the moon because it means that we can extend our services now to support children through the medium of play-therapy and adolescent counselling which is highly needed since Covid."
