Plans for wind turbines in south Roscommon have been causing controversy for several years now

Roscommon councillor Emer Kelly says she hopes An Bord Pleanála won't grant planning permission for a major wind farm in the south of the county.

Energia is lodging an application to build 20 wind turbines of 180 metres in height in an area between Taughmaconnell and Dysart after publishing the plans a year ago.

A proposal by Gaeltech Energy to build 33 turbines in the area was rejected by a judicial review in 2017 after a campaign which lasted several years.

The Independent councillor says she feels the grounds of the judicial review, and the possible impact on landscape are still the same today.
