It follows an Environmental Protection Agency report which found that there have been a number of breaches in E. Coli standards in private schemes.

A senior inspector with the EPA is urging those on group water schemes to test their water supply. It follows an Environmental Protection Agency report which found that there have been a number of breaches in E. Coli standards in private schemes. 24 private groups failed to meet the standards in 2024, up from 13 in 2002.

It comes as funding of over €3 million was announced earlier this week to improve water services in Roscommon and Leitrim. Just over €2.9 million has been secured for 19 projects in Co. Roscommon, while €509,000 was earmarked for 9 in Co. Leitrim. Senior Inspector with the EPA Patrick Chan says there's a high failure rate in the Shannonside Northern Sound region:
