Scene of Roscommon fatal house fire still sealed off this afternoon

Examinations are continuing this afternoon at the scene of the fatal house fire at Gurth in south Roscommon in an effort to determine the cause of the blaze

The scene of double fire tragedy in south Roscommon remains sealed off this afternoon as investigations continue into a blaze that claimed the lives of a middle-aged couple.
Post mortem examinations are due to take place on the bodies of a couple who were discovered at their home by emergency services just after 2am this morning.
This tragedy unfolded just after 2am this morning when fire services from Athlone, Roscommon and Ballinasloe attended a blaze at home less than a mile from St Ciarans national school in Moore.
When they arrived, they discovered the bodies of a man in his fifties  and a woman in the property.
Their remains were removed from the scene and post mortems are due to take place this afternoon.
Forensic experts remain on site to determine the cause of the blaze which has left the house without its roof and significantly damaged.
The man and woman, who are well known in the area, have not yet been identified as efforts continue to contact their relatives.
Gardai in Clonark are investigating and locals in the community have told Shannonside Northern Sound they are saddened by the sudden tragedy.
Local parish priest Fr Michael Molloy says the whole area is in shock.
