Rural pubs must diversify to secure future says local publican

Over 250 pubs have closed their doors permanently since 2005 in the Shannonside Northern Sound region.

A well known Leitrim publican believes rural pubs need to diversify their offerings in order to ensure the business survives.

Dessie Foley from Gerties Bar and Restaurant in Keshkerrigan told the Joe Finnegan Show that pubs must look at securing alternative streams of income.

Over 250 pubs have closed their doors permanently since 2005 in the Shannonside Northern Sound region.

Figures from the Drinks Industry Group of Ireland show Roscommon is the county with the 2nd highest number of closures in the country.
