Tom Reddington died tragically on October 9, 1922, while serving on the pro-Treaty side in the Civil War.

The roundabout at Carriglass in Co.Longford will be named after one of the town's most prominent historical figures.

Tom Reddington was the officer commanding the Longford Brigade of the IRA during the war of independence and was accidentally shot dead by one of his own men in Carriglass.

Councillor Gerry Hagan put forward the motion to rename the roundabout at the most recent meeting of Longford County Council.
