Roscommon's official unemployment figures lowest in 12 months

Roscommon's unemployment figures are the lowest they have been for almost 12 months.

1,962 people were on the Live Register in the county last month - the first time it has dipped below the 2,000 mark since November 2019.

Figures released by the CSO show that in October all three counties in the Shannonside region saw a drop in the number of people classed as long-term unemployed.

Leitrim's Live Register figure for October was down 54 on the number of people claiming unemployment assistance for September - with the county's total now at 1,684.

Longford's unemployment total is  2,441 --  a decrease of 69 in month-on-month figures between September and October.

The number of people long term unemployed in Roscommon is 1,962 - a drop of 85 on figures for September.

The last time Roscommon's unemployment figure was below the 2,000 mark was November 2019, when it reached 1,978 before increasing again in December.

Athlone's unemployment figure decreased by just one in October - to 1825 and Mullingar's figure dropped by 149 to 2,375
