The National Public Health Emergency Team has recommended all counties be moved to level five restrictions after more than 600 covid cases were recorded on Saturday.

The leaders of the three parties will meet with Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan later, and then Cabinet will consider the recommendations.

If adopted it would mean all social visits would be banned, travel restricted to exercise within 5 kilometres of your house and all but essential service work should be done from home.

All but essential retail shops would have to close and cafes & restaurants move to takeaway only for the entire month of October.

More than 3,500 cases of Covid-19 were reported on either side of the border over the past three days.

Yesterday officials here reported 364 more positive tests, with no further deaths among patients.

Cases were recorded in all counties for the second day in a row -- but Dublin, Cork, Donegal, Limerick and Galway had the highest numbers.

There were 20 new cases of Covid reported for Roscommon over the past weekend with 7 on Saturday and 13 new cases declared yesterday evening.

The incidence rate of the virus continues to put Roscommon in the top four counties when it comes to cases per 100,000 of population, coming behind Donegal, Monaghan and Dublin,

Three new cases were reported for Longford on Saturday, and the county is among 9 where a total of 27 cases were spread across yesterday evening.

In Leitrim there were also a low number of cases in recent days with just one added over the weekend.

The county continues to have the lowest incidence of the virus in the entire country.
