Roscommon organic farmer hopes community garden can help refugees

Tommy Earley says many Ukrainian refugees may have been used to working with the land and he's hoping to give them that opportunity again

A well-known Roscommon farmer says he hopes working on the land might provide some help for Ukrainian people who have fled here.

Tommy Earley who farms organically on his 100 acres at Mount Allen in Co Roscommon is setting aside two acres to sow a variety of vegetables.

He's hoping that Ukrainian refugees will come to the farm and grow produce for their own use.

The plan is to bring them together with members of the Leitrim Organic Farmers co-op in a 'community garden' project.

The Roscommon farmer says it should be a win-win situation for everyone involved.
