He had hoped to secure an extra two years in the role but the Garda Commissioner refused the request

The Roscommon-Longford Garda division is without a Chief Superintendent at present after Tony Healy retired from the position last week.

The long-serving Garda was hoping to extend his role as head of the division for an additional two-year period as he approached the retirement age.

However, Commissioner Drew Harris decided not to grant the extension and Mr. Healy , a Cork native, retired from the role

The division is to be merged with the Mayo area later this year and disappointment has been expressed at his departure.

Roscommon Joint Policing Committee Chair Tom Crosby believes Mr Healy's retirement is a big loss to local policing
