Roscommon Cathaoirleach says farming and rural life will be priorities for next year

The new leas-Cathaoirleach is Councillor Orla Leyden.

The new Cathaoirleach of Roscommon County Council says he is looking forward to promoting the county after the pandemic.

Strokestown's Joe Murphy was elected at the AGM of the local authority on Monday, and will become the second member of his family to take the chain of office after his brother Senator Eugene Murphy also served as Chair of the Council.

The new leas-Cathaoirleach is Councillor Orla Leyden.

Outgoing Cathaoirleach Laurence Fallon was praised by all elected representatives for his work during the pandemic in chairing several virtual meetings, and to having to cope with many unexpected consequences as a result of Covid.

Councillor Murphy says farming and rural life will form a key part of his focus and he told Shannonside FM what he hopes to achieve in the next 12 months.
