The demand for properties to rent across the country has led to increased rentals costs

A Roscommon auctioneer says its office doesn't need to advertise properties for rent at the moment.

There have been increases in rent for properties across the country, ranging from 16 per cent in Leitrim and Roscommon to 14 per cent in Cavan, 12 per cent in Monaghan and ten per cent in Longford.

Mike Smith of Smith Kelly Scott auctioneers in Boyle says the opportunities brought about by remote working during the pandemic have had a huge impact, particularly with people returning to rural Ireland from cities and also emigrants coming back from the UK and US who can work remotely.

Mike Smith says in most cases properties are snapped up in less than two weeks.
