Road remains closed following fatal Leitrim road crash

The crash occurred at around 5pm last night on a busy regional road.

A road in Leitrim remains closed this morning following a fatal road crash on Thursday evening.

A man in his 40s lost his life when the motorcycle he was driving was in collision with a car at Aghacashlaun on the R208 near Drumcong.

A Forensic Collision Investigation is currently underway at the scene of this crash on the R208 that links Carrick-on-Shannon to ballinamore following the fatal crash which occurred at around 5pm on Thursday evening.

A motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene after his vehicle was in collision with a car being driven by a man in his 30s who was uninjured in the crash.

The man's body was removed from the scene and a post mortem is due to take place later today at Sligo University Hospital.

The R208 road was closed last night and is likely o remain closed for a number of hours to allow the technical examination to take place.

Gardaí in Carrick-on-Shannon are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward and Any road users who were travelling in the area at this time and may have camera footage (including dash-cam) are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.
