REVEALED: Crime rates for Longford, Roscommon, Leitrim and Sligo in 2020

There were 100 possession of weapons per 100,000 of population in the Shannonside region.

Dublin City had the highest crime rates in the country last year, with Louth and Waterford also over the national average.

 

Figures in the Irish Independent measures county by county offences per 100,000 of the population.

 There were 1,118 assaults per 100,000 population in the Shannonside Northern Sound Region last year, as well as 953 drug offences in the region. There was also 142 possession of weapons across the three local Garda divisions.

In Cavan-Monaghan 464 assaults per 100,000 population were reported in 2020, 354 drug offences, 475 thefts, and 623 public order offences per 100,000 people.

 

In the Longford Roscommon division there were 330 reported assaults, 267 drugs related offences, 549 cases of theft, 46 possession of weapons offences and 344 public order offences per 100,000

In Sligo Leitrim, per 100,000 of population, 324 cases of assault were reported to gardai, 332 drug offences, 542 thefts and  558 public order offences during 2020.

The figures show while there has been a drop in serious crime due to the ongoing Covid-19 restrictions, Drug and weapons offences have increased.
