Housing options for older people in rural areas need to be rethought, and special zoning laws need to be implemented.
That's according Pat O' Mahony a retired principal from Clare who made a presentation to Roscommon council in recent weeks.
He says that with our over-65 population set to increase very significantly in the next decade, plans need to be made now to ensure that older people don't end up living in relative isolation.

The former principal lived and worked in Australia in the 70's and 80's,and says that's where he is drawing inspiration from for a better solution for older people's needs.
