A long-awaited report on the N61 in South Roscommon has concluded that the route has exceeded its capacity. The report, which took a year and a half, highlighted 107 actions which could be taken to make the road safer. Plans for a new road on the 14km route were shelved last year by Transport Infrastructure Ireland.
Independent councillor Laurence Fallon has welcomed the publication of the report this week. Speaking to Shannonside News, however, he said it highlighted a number of safety issues on the N61:
