Leitrim County Council has confirmed that repeated vandalism has resulted in a decision not to fix public lighting at a popular walking area in Ballinamore.

Councillor Ita Reynolds Flynn queried at the February meeting of the local municipal district when lights on the golf links road might be re-installed.

The Council responded that solar lights were installed as part of a trial but were repeatedly vandalised and the battery storage systems were removed.

The Council confirmed that the area, part of the local canal Blueway will not be able to get lights until additional funding is provided to provide ducting, columns and lights.
