Rents in Longford up by over 20% on last year

The report shows an average increase of between 17 and 20% across the Shannonside counties

The Daft.ie quarterly report is out this morning showing rents in the Shannonside region rose by an average of 15 to 20% in the last year.

The figures show Longford with the highest increase of 20.3%, Roscommon with an increase increase of 19.7% and Leitrim at 17.4%.The average cost of renting in Longford is now €1,114 , with Roscommon rents around €1,139, and Leitrim at €960 euro.

Nationally average rents went up by twelve per cent over the last year.Author of The Daft.ie report Ronan Lyons says there's a two tier renting system.

'Rental inflation continues, so the rents are still going up and they're reaching news highs.

Rents have never been as high as they are currently, and nationally rents are about 12% higher that they were a year ago.

These are open market rents , so if you're a sitting tenant and your tenancy has rolled over the trend is gonna be different , but if you're in the open market , if you're in the unfortunate position of having to go out in the open market, the average rent nationwide now on a monthly basis is €1,750.'
