Ulster Bank and KBC are warning customers to be wary of scams when starting new accounts.

Personal and Current accounts are being opened at a record rate as Ulster Bank and KBC Banks prepare to exit the Irish market

New figures from the Banking and Payments Federation Ireland reveal 222-thousand personal current accounts have been opened at the main retail banks so far this year.

It has prompted the Federation to launch a nationwide information campaign aimed at providing detailed information on the steps required to switch account.

CEO Brian Hayes says the initiative was prompted due to the significant numbers of customers changing banks:
