Public realm works in Roscommon to be largely complete for Christmas festival

Work on the public realm space in Roscommon town is being stepped up ahead of the official opening weekend in December.

Much of the work on new paving along Main Street in Roscommon town has been complete with final works by P&D Lydon contractors now underway on the Square.

The area behind the Bank of Ireland towards the gaol is expected to be complete by a planned outdoor Christmas festival on Saturday December 11th and Sunday 12th of December.

The festival with will include live music with a variety of Roscommon artist and musicians, street performances, a Christmas market and food stalls and will run from 3pm to 8pm on both days.

There will also be an unveiling of street murals by Joe Caslin a native of the town.

The focal point will be an 18 foot crochet Christmas tree, created by the students of the Convent of Mercy in the town.

Councillor Kathleen Shanagher says that despite the works outstanding at the front of the bank, it will still host the Christmas tree.
