A public meeting is to be held in Ballinasloe on this Sunday afternoon to give people an opportunity to express opinions on the Nature Restoration laws proposed by the EU.

The meeting will focus on the specific aspect of land re-wetting and all MEP's are being invited to attend.

The event's been organised by local TD's Michael Fitzmaurice and Marian Harkin together with Michael McNamara.

Roscommon Deputy Michael Fitzmaurice says the agricultural sector is facing an uncertain future and if people in rural areas fail to take proactive measures they risk being left behind.

Speaking on the Let's Talk show today the Independent TD says he hopes the invited MEP's will attend and hear people views just days ahead of being asked to vote on the Nature Law.

"My understanding is that within two or three days after that meeting, they're voting. So it would be good to hear the public voice and what they believe in after they hear the different scenarios. It would be good to hear the public, who they're supposed to represent, speaking on what they would like to see their MEPs doing".
