Residents were found to have a good quality of life at the Leitrim centre

A Leitrim service for adults with disabilities has been praised for the safe care it provides to residents with challenging behaviour.

Hiqa inspected the Mount Eslin centre in Leitrim in March and analysed its practices in relation to risks.

A total of five residents were on the premises on the day of the inspection which focused on risk regarding safeguarding residents and managing
challenging behaviours.

Inspectors found a very good level of compliance, good management, oversight and clear communications between management and staff.

Hiqa noted that residents in the centre were in receipt of a good quality and safe service in relation to safeguarding residents from negative interactions and behavioural support.

They did note however that the "issues of compatibility and negative interactions between residents had resulted in a number of safeguarding incidents" but "preventative measures to reduce the risks were identified and the plan was reviewed and updated monthly"

Hiqa noted overall, risk in the centre was "well managed and risks were identified, assessed and control measures were implemented."

The inspectors did not examine the building and also noted they did not get a chance to send a long time with residents and a total of six areas were inspected - and all were rated as complaint.
