Post mortems have been carried out on victims of Westmeath car fire

Results are not being released for operational reasons.

Post mortem examinations have been completed on the bodies of the two children killed in a car fire in Co. Westmeath.

The ages of the baby boy and young girl have also been confirmed.

The children died in the car fire in Multyfarnham at around 4 o'clock on Friday afternoon.

The infant boy was aged 2 and was pronounced dead after being brought to Midland Regional Hospital, Mullingar.

The girl was 5 years-old - her remains were found inside the car and her body was removed to Midland Regional Hospital, Tullamore.

A woman in her 40s who was treated at the scene for burn injuries continues to be treated for serious, but non-life threatening, injuries at a Dublin Hospital.

The State Pathologist, Dr. Sally Ann Colis has carried out post mortems on the bodies of both children, but the results aren't being released for operational reasons.

Forensic examination of the car by the Garda Technical Bureau is continuing.
