Planning permission has been secured for a major upgrade to a well known water park near Athlone.
Bay Sports on the Hodson Bay in Lough Ree operates a collection of floating slides, rockers and challenges open to the public.
The company had applied for permission to construct several new marquees along with new inflatables on the bay.
The marquees will include a reception and wet-suit collection area, safety briefing tent, accessible changing rooms, observation area and a dinning and gift shop area.
Plans also include prefab office structures and outdoor showers.
Designs for the main water park will include inflatable platforms, slides and climbing walls, along with a junior waterpark.
The inflatables are fixed PVC structures, permanently attached to the lake bed using ropes and anchors.
According to the application, it is proposed that the park will operate in daylight hours between the March and October.
The application has been the source of objections from some in the local community who had highlighted access issues with the popular beach and swimming point on Lough Ree.
