Westmeath County Council is due to make a decision in the coming days on plans to add a pool and wellness centre to Wineport Lodge

Westmeath County Council is due to make a decision in the coming days on plans to add a pool and wellness centre to Wineport Lodge in Glasson.

Well-known proprietors Ray Byrne and Jane English made this application back in 2019 and a decision is due next week.

The plans, if approved, will see the addition of a two-storey extension to the existing Wineport Lodge building at Portaneena in Glasson.

This will include a small pool, reception, changing, waiting and relaxation areas and treatment rooms as well as a new balcony area serving existing bedrooms on the first floor.

The work will also require the installation of a small plant room and yard at basement level, and the removal of an existing relaxation room at ground floor level to create two new bedrooms in that space- one at ground floor and one on the first floor.

Further information on the plan was requested in February and was submitted, following an approved extension on the timeframe, in October.

A submission from local residents cited concerns about habitat on Lough Ree; the sprawling nature of the lodge since its inception; parking of coaches and sightlines for traffic entering and exiting the site among other issues.

Westmeath County Council is due to make a decision on November 26th.
