The higher planning authority has given the go ahead for a major wind energy development in South Roscommon. The application was submitted by the Energia Group and Gaeltech Energy Developments and sought a ten year planning permission for 20 wind turbines at Dysart and Taughmaconnell. The plans show the turbines as having a hub height of 99 metres and a blade tip height of 180 metres, with the infrastructure scattered across the townlands of Turrock, Gortaphuill,Cronin, Milltown, Feacle and Tawnagh. The application also included the provision of a 100 metre high meteorological mast for up to 30 years for wind speed monitoring.

A substation and control building has been set for construction in the townland of Cam, with underground electrical cables linking the site to a substation in Monksland. The plans have been the source of contention among locals with concerns raised over the effect on the regions ecology and water table. An Bord Pleanála granted the application with 26 conditions attached.

In a statement to Shannonside FM News today, Energia Group and Galetech Energy Developments have welcomed the decision, branding it as a significant milestone in the overall development of the Seven Hills project and Ireland's Climate action plan. They company behind the plans have also confirmed they will continue to engage with the local community and all stakeholders as the project progresses.
