Planning approved for major new Carrick sports facility

The development of a regional sports campus in Carrick-on-Shannon is a tremendous step forward for the region.

That's according to Councillor Des Guckian who called for a running track to be located on outskirts of the town three and half years ago.

Leitrim County Council has now approved planning for the sports facility and funding will now be sought for its development.

The Shannonside Recreational Regional Campus will be located behind Páirc Seán Mac Diarmada and will include an all-weather pitch, 8 lane running track, indoor basketball courts as well as changing rooms and offices.

Councillor Guckian confirmed to Shannonside FM that the proposed Carrick on Shannon bypass route will not affect this development.
