People urged to contact DVAS service in Leitrim if worried about relatives or friends

The ending of Covid restrictions is likely to lead to a much greater demand for from Domestic Violence Services across the country

The Manager of the Domestic Violence Advocacy Service in Sligo, Leitrim and West Cavan says the lifting of restrictions is going to more  women looking for help.

Carmel McNamee says their helplines have been very busy in recent weeks, and many women have only now felt able to reach out again.

She's also encouraging people who are worried about relatives or friends who they feel are in danger of violence to contact the helpline for advice.

Carmel McNamee says people can be afraid to try to help in these situations, but there is expert advice available for someone who's worried about someone else.
