Pedestrian and cycling trails must be prioritised, says Cathaoirleach

It's hoped the proposed Mid-Shannon Greenway could be a major tourist attraction in the west.

State and local groups must prioritise outdoor pedestrian and cycling trails if the region is to hold it's own in the tourism market.

That's according to the Cathaoirleach of Roscommon Council Joe Murphy at the first public consultation of the proposed Mid-Shannon Greenway this week.

The project is billed as a new route that could link to several walking and cycling trails already in existence to form a major new tourist attraction for the West.

Speaking to Shannonside Northern Sound, Councillor Murphy says the pandemic has shown the positive effects, these local trails and amenities can have on mental health:
