Pavee Point spokesman pleads with Travellers to follow Covid rules

Two people were arrested and over 80 fines handed out

The Co-Director of Pavee Point says it's hugely disappointing that large crowds attended a Traveller funeral in Carrick on Shannon.

Martin Collins was speaking as around 300 people attended the burial of a young Traveller man in the town yesterday, which included a gathering in a temporary marquee at the Shannonside View estate near the town.

Leitrim Gardai­ made two arrests and issued more than 80 fixed penalty notices in relation to various incidents.

Mr Collins condemns the actions of those who breached Covid 19 guidelines and is pleading with all communities, including Travellers, to minimise the risk of causing increased transmission of the virus:
