Patients noted the cleanliness of toilets and bathrooms, staff always wearing name badges, and pain management

92% of patients who attended Roscommon University Hospital said they had a very good overall experience.

According to the national inpatient experience survey, the hospital scored 10% above the national average.

57 patients who attended Roscommon University Hospital were invited to take part in the survey, with 27 taking part. Over half of patients who took the survey were aged 81 and older, 32% were between 66 and 80, while 7% were either aged between 51 and 65, or 15 and 35. Patients noted the cleanliness of toilets and bathrooms, staff always wearing name badges, and pain management. The areas surveyed included care on the ward, examinations and diagnosis, discharge and transfer, and care during the pandemic. For care on the ward, 96% of patients surveyed found their wards and rooms to be very clean. While seven people who were unable to eat during mealtimes said they were not offered a replacement meal. The highest rated area of examinations and diagnosis was privacy, with 93% of people saying they always got enough privacy when being examined or treated. The lowest rated area involved one patient saying they were not told how they could expect to feel after an operation or procedure. 81% of patients said they were given enough notice of their discharge from the hospital however 41% said they were not told about medication side effects before going home.
