Nearly 7,000 applications for additional needs and exceptional needs payments were made in the Shannonside region in 2022.
The payments are made where it is clear that a person has an urgent or immediate need, with every effort made to ensure that the claim is processed on the same day.
Funeral costs, emergency home repairs, increases in energy bills or food and shelter following an emergency are covered by the payment.

Longford recorded the highest level of emergency payment claims last year with 2,891 registered.
Roscommon saw 1,983 claims made to community welfare officers, while Leitrim saw 1,899 requests.
Nationally, 146,569 were made country wide last year.
