Over 600 fewer people claiming PUP locally this week

Roscommon recorded the most significant drop as people returned to their workplaces.

Close to 1,500 people have returned to work this week in the Shannonside Northern Sound region this week.

New figures from the Department of Social Protection show that 1,493 individuals across the five counties closed their pandemic unemployment payments in the last 7 days.

Nationally almost 30,000 people finished with the support this week, with just under 163,400 people still in receipt of the support around the country.

Roscommon accounted for the largest drop in the Shannonside region with 1,742 people remaining on the payment this week, a drop of 312.

Longford and Leitrim currently have 1,054 and 899 recipients of the PUP down 188 and 151 claimants.

The numbers of people on the Pandemic Unemployment Payment is now at its lowest since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic.]
