The public are being warned to keep well away from fallen power lines and report them immediately

Over 5 and a half thousand homes and businesses in the Shannonside Northern Sound region are without power this morning.

Storm Barra has been battering the Atlantic coast since early morning, with storm conditions now moving across the country.

A Status Orange Wind Warning's now in effect for Dublin, Louth Wicklow and East Meath, while other counties such as Limerick, Galway and Mayo have been experiencing orange-level winds since 6am.

Cavan is currently the worst hit so far in the region with 1,769 customers in Cavan town and 1,456 in Derrycramph without power.

1,356 people in Boyle have no electricity, this morning, with French Park National School closing its doors today due to the outage,

Over 1,000 people in Monaghan are without power in the last few hours, with 500 in Ballybay and similar numbers in Monaghan town.

Gardaí are warning road users to be wary of fallen trees and debris on roads, with motorists urged to drive with extreme caution.
