Over 5000 homes in Leitrim to receive a decrease in local property tax bill

Thousands of homeowners across the Shannonside Northern Sound region are to receive a decrease in their property tax bill.

The Irish Independent reports this morning that many homeowners in counties like Dublin, Meath, Kildare and Wicklow will see big increases and are caught in what it describes as a property tax trap, following Revenue revaluations.

However according to the Irish Independent, householders in Cavan, Monaghan and Leitrim will see the biggest changes.

23,700 homes across these counties seeing a decrease to their tax rate with the average bill at €90 as the average valuation is under €200,000.

Across Cavan, Monaghan and Leitrim there will be 100 homes increasing under the changes to the household tax bill.

In Roscommon 180 bills are going down and 50 are going up, again the average bill per household will be €90 as the average property valuation is under €200,000.

And in Longford which is one of the least changed counties in the country with 70 houses facing a decrease while 40 households in the county will see their charges increasing.

The bill for the local property tax in Longford is at the same rate as the rest of the Shannonside Northern Sound region at €90 based on the average valuation of €200,000.
