Over 2400 patients waited at local hospital EDs in July

One local hospital saw its figures jump over 50% year-on-year.

Over 2,400 patients were recorded as being on trolleys or chairs in at local hospital Emergency Departments last month.

The number of people waiting at University Hospital Galway ED last month was 51% higher than the figure for 2021.

Over 9,190 patients have been without a bed in Irish hospitals in July according to the Irish Nurses and Midwives Monthly TrolleyWatch figures.

Galway University Hospital had the third highest figure in the country 998 patients waiting at the ED for treatment last month compared to 592 in 2021.

Almost 620 people were waiting on a bed in Sligo Hospital in July a rise of 126 from the previous 12 months.

Portiuncula also recorded a slight rise in ED numbers in the past year - rising from 221 to 233 this year.

Cavan General Hospital and Tullamore Regional Hospital both recorded a slight drop in overcrowding at 62 and 72 respectively.

While our lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda rose from just 16 to 93 in last year.
