Over 230 people are currently waiting on cataract surgery in the Shannonside Northern Sound Region.
The condition is common in older people and occurs when the lens of the eye becomes cloudy, leading to a loss of sight.
The treatment is generally straight forward with the cloudy lens removed from the eye and replaced with an artificial lens.
Figures released to Sinn Fein's Rose Conway Walsh in the Dail show the majority of those waiting have been doing so for under a year.

17 of those on waiting lists have been seeking the procedure for between one and two years.
Roscommon and Longford show the highest number of those waiting with 75 and 69 people on list for the straight forward operation.
That's followed by 35 people in Leitrim and 32 in Cavan, with all but 4 in Leitrim waiting under one year.
Monaghan currently has the lowest number of people on waiting lists for cataract surgery, with 22 people waiting less than 12 months to be seen.
