Over 200 positive Covid cases in local hospitals today

The number of Covid patients in hospital has dropped by 14 per cent over the past nine days.

Over 200 people are in local hospitals with Covid-19 today.

Hospitals across the region are still dealing with substantially high numbers of positive patients as the omicron surge continues.

Today's figure is comprised of those receiving treatment for Covid-19 and patients admitted for other causes who've tested positive.

Covid wards at UHG are some of the busiest today with 74 Covid positive patients admitted, one of which is in ICU.

34 patients with the virus are attending Cavan General Hospital as of this morning, two people in the hospital's critical care unit.

That's followed closely By out Lady's Hospital in Drogheda where 33 people are in Covid wards.

In Sligo University Hospital, 22 patients have tested positive for Covid.

The Midlands Regional Hospitals in Mullingar and Tullamore are treating 16 and 11 patients respectively , with 4 ICU beds filled between the two facilities.

Meanwhile, Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe has recorded 3 patients receiving care with Covid 19 and 13 positive patients in general beds.

Nationally, there are 979 people in the country's hospitals with Covid today.
