Over 14,000 patients attended a local hospital's A&E department for the first time during the first four months of this year.
The figures come following a question by county Leitrim councillor Felim Gurn at this week's meeting of the Regional Health Forum West.
There are four Regional Health Groups: West, South, Dublin Mid Leinster and Dublin North East.
The Forum includes public office representatives from county councils who can make representations to the HSE on the range and operation of health and personal social services in their area.
Independent Cllr Felim Gurn raised the matter sought the number of patients who went through the accident and emergency department at Sligo University Hospital for the first time between January to April of this year.
January saw the highest number of patients at 3,849, March was next with 3,755.
There were 3,719 in April and February had 3,419.
In total, there were 14,742 patients.
