Over 130 fire safety inspections were carried out by county council officials in the Shannonside region last year.
New figures revealed to Shannonside FM reveal that just one closure notice was issued in the region since 2019 for alleged breaches of fire safety regualtions.
County Councils have various powers of inspection and enforcement for Fire Prevention/safety measures in buildings with owners or occupiers required by law to put in place procedures to prevent or manage incidents of fire.
Details released to Shannonside FM through Freedom of Information reveal that Leitrim's fire service carried out the most inspections in the region last year, with 66 premises examined, which was down slightly on the 96 premises which were subject to a visit from a fire officer in 2019.
In quarter one of this year, six inspections have also taken place in Leitrim.
The only closure order following on from a fire safety inspection in the Shannonside region in the last two years was in County Roscommon. A total of 38 inspections were carried out there and one fire safety notice as well as a closure notice were issued last year.
A total of 63 premises were inspected from 92 fire safety officer visits in 2019 and 18 premises have been examined to determine their complaince with regualtions so far this year.
Longford County Council carried out a total of 31 inspections last year, well down on the 79 from 2019 - which resulted in one safety notice being issued and no inspections have been carried out so far this year.
