Over 1,200 patients left local EDs without treatment in May

Sinn Féin's health spokesman, David Cullinane, says the problem is partly down to overcrowding.

Over 1,200 patients walked away from emergency departments across the Shannonside region without finishing their treatment in May.

That's according to figures released by the HSE which shows 377 people left Tullamore hospital without being attended to while a further 345 patients walked out of the A and E at GUH.

Out of 3711 people who arrived at Mullingar Hospital a total of 193 left before being seen while 104 paitents walked away from Portiuncula Hospital.

Sligo University Hospital saw the highest number of people attend its emergency department in May with four percent or 231 leaving without being treated.
