Over eleven hundred people had hospital procedures cancelled at Roscommon Hospital last year due to the pandemic.

New figures for the Saolta Hospital Group show that 1,128 procedures were postponed by the hospital in 2021, with some rebooked in the short term following changes in circumstance at the facility.

Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe contacted 197 patients to cancel procedures in 2021, with bed pressures, increased COVID presentations to the site and the HSE Cyber Attack given as reasons.

Meanwhile, Sligo University Hospital recorded just 94 hospital led cancellations of procedures.

However, due to pressure at the Hospital's emergency department, the cyber attack and soaring Covid presentations, hospital management stopped scheduling appointments for the majority of patients attending the facility in 2020.

According to figures released at yesterday's Regional Health Forum West meeting, no appointment was scheduled for 2,442 people at Sligo University Hospital in 2021 who required a medical procedure.

Similar figures were recorded in 2020, with 2,025 people not given an appointment by the hospital.

According to the Saolta Hospital Group, they are putting a significant priority on dealing with the public waiting lists.
